More About

Born in California, Belinda Carlisle left home at 19 years old to pursue a career in music. Her first venture into music came in 1977 when she was the drummer for punk rock band The Germs. Soon after leaving the Germs, she co-founded the Go-Go’s with friends, all of whom were largely untrained musicians. The band went on to become one of the most successful American bands of the 1980s, helping usher new wave music into popular radio.

The band broke up in 1985, with Belinda pursuing a solo career, releasing her debut album a year later, which went on to achieve Gold status in the US and Platinum in Canada. Her success only grew from then on. Across her solo career, she achieved four US Top 10 Hits (including the number one spot with ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth’), and seven Top 10 Hits in the UK.

Her music has also featured on the big screen, including films Mannequin (1987), Out of Bounds (1986), Burglar (1987), and Hercules (1997).

She opened for Take That on their ‘The Circus Live Tour’ in 2009 and reprised the role in their 2026 stadium appearances, as well as opening for Cher in her 1999 Believe tour. She has reformed the Go-Go’s on numerous occasions, and was meant to go on tour with them in 2020, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Go-Go’s were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in May 2021, and Belinda was inducted into the California Hall of Fame by the Governor of California Gavin Newsom in February 2024.
